Dental Mouth Guards
A Mouth Guard or Mouth Protector is a protective device for the mouth, teeth and gums. It’s used most often by children and teenagers who participate in contact sports including football, basketball, soccer and other sports, even cheerleading. We see many dental injuries that could be prevented by wearing a properly fitted mouth guard. Adults should also wear mouth guards for protection as well.
At Brandon Dental Care, we can help choose and customize the right mouth guard for you right here in the office.
Why Wear a Mouth Guard?
Get a Custom Fit for Best Protection
While mouth guards are available in most sporting goods stores, there are some things you should consider. Store bought mouth guards do not offer the best level of protection and are less comfortable because they’re not custom fit for your mouth.
For the best level of comfort and protection, we can help you choose a custom fit mouth guard that’s specifically designed to protect your mouth and your teeth.
3 Types of Mouth Guards
Custom Fitted Mouth Guards: These are made by our dentists for you personally. They are more expensive than other versions because they are customized, but will offer the best fit and protection.
Stock or Store-Bought Mouth Guards: Inexpensive and pre-formed, ready to wear. Unfortunately, they often don’t fit very well. They can be bulky and can make breathing and talking difficult.
Boil and Bite Mouth Guards: Mouth protection that can be bought at sports stores and drugstores. They are softened in water by boiling them and then inserted into your mouth and allowed to adapt to the shape of your mouth and teeth.
The best mouthguard is one that has been custom made for your mouth by your dentist.
