Gum Disease Treatment
The dentists and hygienists at Brandon Dental Care are focused on helping our patients prevent or minimize the effects of gum disease. We help our patients address existing gum disease through the use of scaling and root planing procedures.
Untreated gum disease can cause loss of teeth through the erosion of the jaw bone that supports your teeth. This erosion occurs from your body’s response to the bacteria found in plaque and tartar build up.
Gum disease is largely preventable with proper oral hygiene – brushing, flossing and regular dental checkups!

What is Gum Disease?
Gum disease, or gingivitis, is an inflammation of your gums caused by infection from harmful bacteria buildup called plaque and tartar.
Fortunately, most gum disease can be treated easily by our dentists and staff if addressed early on. Letting gingivitis progress or go untreated can lead to more serious problems with your gums, teeth and supporting bone structure.
Signs of Gum Disease
- Inflammation or infection in the gums
- Redness, swelling and bleeding of gums
- Puffy, sensitive gums
- Mobile or loose teeth
- Flared or splayed teeth
- Tooth movement
What is Periodontal Disease?
Periodontitis or periodontal disease is a more severe form of gum disease in which the gums and bones beneath the gums have become inflammed or infected. Eventually, a serious infection can destroy soft tissue and bone support. Periodontitis has also been linked to heart disease, osteoporosis, arthritis, and other inflammatory medical issues. Ask our dental professionals if you are prone to these diseases.
