Root Canals

A root canal is needed when the nerve of a tooth is infected or abscessed. In order to save the tooth and avoid having it extracted, the infected tissues (blood vessels and nerve) are removed and the canal cleaned.

A medicament may be placed and the tooth temporized to allow healing. Eventually the canal is filled with a pliable filling material that seals the tooth and eventually allows the tooth to be restored to its full function.
