Cosmetic Dentistry
Smiling comes naturally to most people, but you may find yourself hesitating to show others your biggest grin when you have some type of cosmetic issue. Whether it’s stained teeth, a large gap between your two front teeth, a chipped tooth, or another common issue, you may feel so self-conscious that you rarely show your teeth when you smile. Cosmetic dentistry at Brandon Dental Care, gives you the opportunity to change your smile and improve your esthetics.
What is Cosmetic Dentistry?
Restorative dentistry, such as having a cavity filled or undergoing a root canal, corrects a dental problem to improve your overall health. Most procedures are recommended by a dentist. Cosmetic dentistry, on the other hand, is a group of elective dental procedures for the primary purpose of approving appearance. Because of this, most dental insurance companies don’t cover cosmetic dentistry procedures. One common exception is repairing damage to your teeth sustained in an accident.
Popular Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures
The goal of cosmetic dentistry is to create a more balanced and symmetrical smile. However, the procedure used to reach this goal is up to you. Our dentist is happy to provide recommendations after meeting with you for an initial consultation.
Dental bonding
As one of the most economical cosmetic dentistry procedures, dental bonding involves our dentist covering minor imperfections in your teeth with composite resin. Typical examples of problems disguised by dental bonding materials include hairline cracks, discoloration, and minor chips. Our dentist can also change the shape of your tooth, making it appear wider, longer, and more uniform. Dental bonding materials typically last five to seven years.
Porcelain Veneers
This cosmetic dentistry procedure is appropriate for concealing a large gap between teeth, small chips and cracks, and minor discoloration. Our dentist starts the process by removing a small amount of enamel from your tooth. Next, the dentist applies adhesive to the back of the porcelain veneer to enable it to remain attached to your tooth. A special dental instrument called a curing light speeds up the process of the adhesive sticking to your tooth.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening requires two appointments. The first time you come in, our dentist creates customized molds of your teeth and sends them to our laboratory. When you return for the second appointment, our dentist pours bleaching gel into each mouth tray, and you sit in the dental chair for up to 60 minutes. After removing the trays and rinsing your mouth, our dentist uses a curing light to bring out the shine from the bleaching gel.
